Arklow Banks Windfarm Swathe Bathymetry Construction Support Survey
In November 2003, Pelorus Surveys were commissioned by GE Wind to provide survey support during the construction of Phase One of the development, which involved the installation of seven turbines providing 25.20 megawatt capacity as a demonstration to showcase its turbines.
Should the demonstration be successful, it is hoped that the Arklow Banks windfarm will evolve into Europe's largest windfarm with 200 turbines, producing 500 megawatts of electricity (enough energy to power 500,000 houses).
Pelorus Surveys successfully acquired Interferometric Swathe Bathymetry data around all seven turbines to confirm bed levels to enable the safe navigation of the 100 metre construction vessel, The Ocean Hanne (pictured above).
The data were processed on site and presented to the vessel master in Rosslare Harbour. |
